Day6: After 5th Chemo
I had a lot of rest and it was a slow day today. My friend took my son out for a sleepover since last night and they had fun days until today. My son came back with full of stories to share and that made me so happy.

People who takes care of me very closely tells me that I am doing better for this cycle. I look better, talk clearer, eat better and am out of bed for longer hours than my previous cycles. That is right. But I still feel nauseous and sick that I really wish there were a day that I would feel great. I'd love to have a break, only a day would do me great.

It was a breezy cold day, but a perfect sunny day for soccer! Other than my teaching loads, it was my first time going out from home since my last chemotherapy. It has been 11 days since then. I put make-up, wig and a knit cap, and there I am a soccer mom.

"Food Looks Gray" This week, a typhoon has hit Japan and my parents who are helping me here were worried about their home in Japan. When my parents made a phone call to my aunt in Japan, I had a chance to talk to her as she was concerned about my progress.

Last three days, I have been resting well in bed or a couch day after day. I was watching movies and catching up with TV dramas. Everyday is "better than yesterday." A friend visited me on Day 8 (Thursday) for a short time. I had not seen her for years and I was so happy to catch up with her. I wanted to update this just for a record.

I had my friends visited me for a short time. I had not seen them for awhile but once they learned of my situation, they came to visit me. I warned them that I might not be up for talking much, but I welcomed if they just wanted to see me. It was nice for them to stop by. After lying down in bed for the past days, I was bored of watching movies. Especially, having two friends visiting at once, I did not have to do the talking all the time and it was a nice change.

I gave a midterm to my Tuesday class today. One student stayed after the class to talk to me. She disclosed to me that she had gone through chemo treatments for two years when she was younger. She shared me some of activities or things that she tried. One thing was clear to me that I should be open to anything to try. I am thankful that she shared her experience with me. I am not the only one. She is brave, thoughtful and bright lady now. Thank you.

While I can move around in this precious short time in-between chemo therapies, I wanted to visit Chelsea area in NYC. There was my favorite tea store and having variety in teas might help me drinking more liquid after each chemo sessions. (Unfortunately, the store was not there any more.) I also wanted to give some tour to my parents from Japan who are helping us out during my treatments. Under our circumstances, they tend to stay home and I wanted to share what I find great about the city to them. We did not have the whole day to be there, but there was full of interesting things to see, High Line walk path and Chelsea Market. It is a nice opportunity to dress nice and feel good.
