Possible Surgery for Fibroid Removal 子宮筋腫を取り除く手術かも

This summer in June, I had my regular oncologist visit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. There is no sign of cancer so far and that was good. But my fibroid is getting so big that the oncologist requested me to test and check with specialists. Over this summer, I have seen some specialists and it looks like I will have a surgery to remove it. My GYN said my fibroid is as big as a grapefruit, or my utrus with the tumor is about 4 month pregnant size. (The top picture, the hat I made, Hats by Yoko Katz, became a matching set to the hospital gown. LOL.)

Normal Nails Again (21 Months after Breast Cancer Chemo) 爪がやっと元に戻ってくる(抗がん剤終了から21か月)

After 1 year and 9 months from my last breast cancer chemotherapy treatments (ended in November 2014), I finally feel that my nails gained again the strength I used to had. Up to this summer, my nails had been chipping, cracking, and coming into multiple separated layers all the time. I could not grow them at all. But now I can!

Dissertation Defense: Pass! 博士論文口頭試験 合格!

I passed my dissertation defense in PhD Economics last week! My husband and son celebrated my achievement with a cake and Champagne on the same day. It was a long, and sometimes rough, journey to come to this day. I still have to make some minor revisions, but the major parts are all done! A big relief! (Yes, this is THE big project I have been referring as a big project in this blog.) In the picture above, I took off my hat while defending it. I tried to look moderately stylish, but hopefully looked smart to defend a serious paper. How do you rate?

Happy Halloween 2015 2015年のハロウィン

I remember the last year Halloween, I felt so sick that I did not even want to get up for bathroom. It was two days after my 5th chemotherapy. I had my nerve system started to be damaged, peripheral neuropathy, that I lost sensation with my finger tips and toes, and I could not walk uphill. That was an scary experience. This year, I was out in streets with my son, going along for trick-or-treating. I could not help but to think, "I could not even walk this street last year." I was happy to be able to do this again.

My period is BAAAACK! 生理が戻ってきた(涙) Pose#480

I am super excited to have my period back yesterday after the breast cancer treatments. I was told that chemotherapy could damage my totally healthy ovaries and could strip away my period FOREVER (at the age 36). I welcome back my period with joy today!

Teaching Tuesday 火曜日授業の日

In a 3 hours lecture, I walk around classroom, visiting students here and there. I give students worksheet, sometimes an individual work, or a group work. I catch some troubled students early to set their understanding straight before they get really in trouble at the end.

Teaching Wednesday 授業水曜日

Teaching two courses -3 hours each- in a day, while I was constantly concerned about my breasts is stressful. I was changing back and forth between Power Point by pulling down a slide screen and let it roll up for a use of blackboard was a pain in the butt breasts.

I could not handle well of seeing the scar sites on my breasts last night. I was almost fainting and called my husband to take me to bed. -nothing happened to the surgery sites, it was all psychological, just wanted to let you know in advance.- The picture is from our window about a week ago. I did not modify the color, it was a beautiful sunset.

Day27: Echocardiogram

Day 27 after my last chemotherapy. I checked myself in for echocardiogram. Target therapy of Herceptin and Perjeta, some patients develop heart problems with them. According to a nurse I spoke to when I had the treatment a week ago, if any heart issue came up with the treatments, it should be temporary. Soon after the therapy is over, the issue will go away. My heart will be monitored every a couple of months.
