4th Year Anniversary of My Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Today is my 4th year anniversary of my breast cancer diagnosis. For how many more years, will I remember that day so vividly? Probably for awhile!

4 years ago… I was blank at first. Then, will I die soon? What will happen to my son without me? I felt so vulnerable, out of control, scary and sad… Then my thoughts went freeze again. That thoughts cycled over and over again. I remember that weekend, my son was invited to a birthday party that I took him to. People were talking to me but my mind was not there (sorry). Children were having so much fun with joyful scream. People were singing happy birthday. Everything looked so unreal to me. I was there physically, but I was not there at the same time. It’s been 4 years since then! Every 3 months, I see doctors for check-up. I still takes a daily dose of Tamoxifen medication, probably for next 6 more years. I have not been diagnosed with recurrence. I don’t have to think about it all the time in my daily life. But when I see my doctors, I kind of prepare myself what if my doctor tells me something I don’t want to hear. So far not a bad news.

I have been more active ever since the cancer treatment was over. “Curiosity has Possibilities” is my new motto ever since. When I find something interesting, I take my curiosity seriously and try to fulfill it. I appreciate my time and I am very active today. I did not know that this day will ever come to me 4 years ago today. Since 4 years ago, I worry less in general today, because most of things happen to me are not as serious as the cancer. I am so grateful for my life. It is a totally different world from my perspectives before the diagnosis.

This Spring 2018 semester, I worked with a fashion design student’s senior project on garments for breast cancer patients. The student, Sidney, did a great work and I will make a report soon.

I am happy! Big love, everyone!

My last day of teaching for the Spring semester style. Hats by Yoko Katz.

Big Love!
